She later joined Gollop and Blank law firm in 1994 for a 6-year stint – later moving to PG Industries as assistant company secretary.

In 2004 she became a magistrate – after a stint at her own law firm – upgraded to resident magistrate and provincial magistrate before being seconded to work as a senior professional research assistant in the Office of the Chief Justice.

Chigumba’s stint as a High Court judge commenced on December 20, 2012 – while her most-known decision was when in she reversed a two week ban on protests issued by the police citing the deteriorating security situation.

The ban triggered a court challenge filed by PDP leader and lawyer Tendai Biti on behalf of the opposition parties coalescing under the National Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA).

Her attempt to join the Supreme Court were trailed by allegations of soliciting a $20 000 bribe from a party she was presiding over – Mr Kanokanga – for that, she received a bashing by members of the JSC led by the late Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku.

JSC had received a written complainant from Kunonga.
