Johannesburg – “We’re not going to win the championship on Saturday, they aren’t either. But it’s one match at a time,” Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has said.

The coach has downplayed suggestions that their clash with Mamelodi Sundowns could be a possible Absa Premiership title decider.

With five points separating the two sides, it is thought that narrowing the gap would place Chiefs in a promising position to put up a serious bid for the championship, while victory for Sundowns could all but lead the trophy back to Chloorkop.

The Brazilians currently sit top of the log standings with 34 points – four points ahead of second placed Cape Town City, with Amakhosi five points adrift in third place, after 18 rounds of fixtures thus far.

However, Komphela refuses to get ahead of himself and insists that, with 12 matches to go before the end of the campaign, victory for either side won’t end the race.

“We still have 12 matches to go for. We’ll kill this one over the weekend, and there’s still plenty more to go,” said Komphela.

“I hope everyone enjoys the occasion – coaches and players focus on the match and supporters be entertained. We’re looking forward to the match.”

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is scheduled for 20h15 on Saturday evening.
