Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says Amakhosi they wanted to win their encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns and the draw was more of regret than disappointment.

The much-anticipated clash failed to deliver goals at FNB Stadium, leaving Sundowns five points ahead of Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, and four in front of Cape Town City at the summit after 19 games.

“We wanted to win. We would have loved to do that. However, it’s more one of regret than disappointment. Games of this magnitude are decided on small margins,” Komphela is quoted as saying on his club's website.
Steve Komphela Speaks Out

“The game finished nil-nil, so the gap is still five points. Now we go our different ways to try to get the three points. There was some good energy but we, as coaches, always want a result, which we didn’t really get today.

Komphela pointed out there is still plenty of football to be played with 11 matches remaining.

“The league is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to know how to pace yourselves.”

Meanwhile, Masandawana counterpart Pitso Mosimane singled out Glamour Boys trio George Maluleka, Willard Katsande and Ryan Moon for praise after the tie.

“George Maluleka was fantastic in midfield, Willard Katsande was top and Ryan Moon made some very good runs. It was a very good game to watch.”

Downs and City will collide in the Mother City this Friday, while Komphela's men will visit champions Bidvest Wits the following day. - KickOff
