Harare – Zimbabwe's First Lady – Auxillia Mnangagwa has relinquished her parliamentary seat she inherited from her husband to become a 'mother of the nation', while no direct replacement has been selected, with rumours that her son Emmerson Mnangagwa Junior might be the automatic heir.

In front of weeping supporters, Mnangagwa cried as her supporters protested her move, which was announced by her husband – Emmerson  – turning the emotional farewell event in Mvuma into a 'funeral' for the popular former Chirumanzu-Zibagwe legislator.

Soon after the announcement, hordes of women moved to the front to protest their displeasure, though the president tried in vain to water down the act. The emotional congetaes claim to have benefited immensely from her generous character, and saying goodbye was always going to be hard for bot parties.

The First Lady, born on March 25, 1963, in Mazowe District in Mashonaland Central, Auxilia Mnangagwa grew up in Chiweshe near Rosa Business Centre where she attained both primary and secondary education.

After completing her secretarial studies at Silveira House in Chishawasha she joined the Ministry of Manpower and Development in 1981 which was under the supervision of the late Edgar Tekere

In 1992, she joined the then Prime Minister’s office. It was during this period that she is reported to have worked at the Sheraton Hotel (now Rainbow Towers) as a security officer. She was with the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) until 1997 when she left to undertake her studies in Environment and Tourism at the University of Zimbabwe .

Two years after leaving the country in order to pursue her studies in Hotel and Tourism Administration in Switzerland, she graduated with a degree in 2001. Mnangagwa returned back to Zimbabwe and worked in Zanu-PF’s finance department in Kwekwe.

Mnangagwa, Psychology Mazivisa, Betty Kaseke, Tshinga Dube, and Esau Mupfumi won positions in by-elections. She spent a number of years behind the political scenes.

Auxilia is also mother to Emmerson Mnangagwa Junior who was also speculated by various sections of the media to have been interested in taking up the seat for Chirumanzi-Zibagwe which was declared vacant after the former holder of that seat Emmerson Mnangagwa (president) was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe

Praising her rare move, war veterans said, she was different from former First Lady grace Mugabe.

“That is the problem we had with former First Lady (Grace Mugabe) who infiltrated the party, wanted to get a parliamentary seat what for? Amai Mnangagwa has led the way and as war veterans we welcome the move.

“Amai Mnangagwa has just shown that she is a person of high moral, integrity and respect by relinquishing her seat to focus on several other issues as the First Lady,” Victor Matemadanda.

The fiery politician was a victim of Zanu-Pf infighting, resulting in his dismissal.

“We were once fired from the party together with honourable (Chris) Mutsvangwa and Mahiya (Douglas) for trying to tell the former First Lady (Grace Mugabe) to leave politics. Today we have a First Lady who led by example.” – Online Sources
