Johannesburg - Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan feels Steve Komphela cannot be the only one blamed for Amakhosi’s fall from grace.

Chiefs have endured a trophyless two-and-a-half seasons, but they are still in the running to win this season’s Nedbank Cup, while their chances of lifting the Absa Premiership title rest on other clubs dropping points.

Coach Steve Komphela’s contract is due to expire at the end of June and many supporters have already called for it not to be renewed. Komphela has taken a lot of flak since he was appointed in 2015, but Khan says there are deeper cracks in the empire at Naturena.

“I hear everybody say ‘fire the coach’ but I’m saying, ‘is it only the coach, isn’t deeper cracks in the empire?’ And if you look at it, you got look at the entire structure,” he says.

Amakhosi have six matches left in the league; against Free State Stars, Chippa United, Platinum Stars, Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United and bottom of the table Ajax Cape Town.

Khan, who feels Chiefs are not out of the title race yet, says the games against relegation threatened Dikwena and the Urban Warriors will be the most difficult ones for Amakhosi.

“It’s very tough,” Khan states. “You mentioned all these six teams and for me the difficult teams are Platinum Stars and Ajax. You talking about two teams who are fighting for their lives and you know when you have somebody in the corner and fighting for his life it's very dangerous.

“I’ve no doubt that it’s not going to be easy to play Free State Stars away...it’s going to be tough clash as their next game. So they have their work cut.” - KickOff
