Chiefs Supporters: 'Remain Calm, Avoid Rampages, Rally Your team'

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs have urged their supporters to rally behind the team as they continue to challenge for the Nedbank Cup as well as a CAF qualifying spot in the Absa Premiership.

The club have come under fire from their supporters, some of whom resorted to violence and vandalism following their league defeat to Chippa United at FNB Stadium last weekend.

The result saw Chiefs slip 10 points behind front-runners Mamelodi Sundowns, with just four games remaining in the campaign.

Amakhosi have since vowed to make serious changes ahead of next season but, in the meantime, are still targeting Nedbank Cup success and a top-three finish in the league in order to qualify for the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup.

"In as far as Saturday’s event goes, we met with Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) and relevant stakeholders that were involved in the organisation of the event to review all matters relating to the match,' read a statement from the club.

'In the interim, we appeal to the supporters for calm and patience as there is still a lot to play for in the league and the Nedbank Cup.

'We believe that there is a lot to fight for as the team is in the semifinal of the Nedbank Cup and there is a possibility of qualification for one of the continental competitions.'

The Glamour Boys have thus called for 'calm, patience and good behaviour' so as to 'avoid endangering other supporters and the team' in their remaining matches for the 2017/18 season.

'Regardless of how dire the situation is, in the next few weeks, we sincerely appeal for calm, patience and good behaviour from supporters. We have to avoid endangering other supporters’ lives and the team,' added the club.

'As we move to the last few matches of the current season, we really need your undivided support and assure you that decisive changes will happen before the new season to remedy the situation.'

Chiefs next face a crunch league meeting with relegation strugglers Platinum Stars at the FNB Stadium, which has since been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon (15h00). - KickOff
