Harare – Two opposition supporters protesting the outcome of the recent elections have been reportedly shot in the city, while the European Union observer mission has said though an improvement was noted, there are serious concerns elsewhere.
The lead EU observer points out that the presidential results were counted first and wonders why they are being announced last.“We can confirm gunshots are being fired now in the Harare CBD. Streets are getting quieter as the sun sets on a chilling Wednesday afternoon filled with tempers, anxiety and a nation prays for peace,” a local online newspaper said.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s president warned against making “provocative statements” as hundreds of angry opposition supporters protest in the capital and riot police fired tear gas.
“Now is the time for responsibility and above all peace,” President Emmerson Mnangagwa says on Twitter.
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former Liberian president and head of the observer mission of the International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute warns that “the more the presidential vote is delayed, the more it calls into question the population’s confidence in the election process.”
The election environment has been simmering since the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has been labeled an extension of the ruling party by the MDC Alliance, whose demands were thwarted by the commission.
