Four families from the Hopley community in Harare have been left horrified after they discovered a decomposing body in their community drinking water well.

The families were distressed to learn that the water that they had been drinking and using for cooking, had contained a decomposing body for 6 days.

They made the unpleasant discovery when they decided to empty the drinking well, after noting that a strong stench was coming from the water source.

During the process of emptying the well, the families were traumatized to find the decomposing body of 33-year-old Bowen Mutori. Mutori had been missing for 6 days and appears to have been murdered by as yet unknown perpetrators.

After making the unwholesome discovery, the families notified the police who retrieved the body on Tuesday and took it to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

One of the residents who made the unpalatable discovery told local tabloid H-Metro that, “We tried to empty the well because of the stench from the well but nothing was found on only to discover the body floating the following day. Mwoyo wakamira izvezvi.

“Shuviro yangu ndeyekuti mhandu dzakaita izvi dzibatwe nekuti hatingacherere mugodhi kuti rigova guva remunhu.”

The murder of the late Bowen Mutori and the subsequent discovery of his body in the well was confirmed by Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii. He told the publication,

“At around 2100 hours, it was reported that he saw an unknown vehicle passing by the road outside his house and told his wife that the motorist was looking for him.

“He was reported to have put on his shoes and went away only to be found dead six days later. His body was found floating in a well at a house in their neighbourhood.

“…The body had a swollen face and bruises on the neck and police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.” - Online Sources
