Harare – The passionate voice of Pastor Gift Mabaudhi, that rocked the radio station, preaching the gospel, is no more.

He was 68.

The late cleric was a permanent feature on the vernacular radio station, which became a darling of many listeners, during the broadcasts.

His weekly sermons became a crowd puller, turning many to Christ. Sadly, there is nothing much about his journey in the gospel.

His son, Rowdy Mabaudhi broke the sad news on Twitter.

“My father Mufundisi Mabaudhi, most of you know him from radio programmes, Zvidzidzo Zvebhaiberi, Chikritsu neTsika, Sunday morning service,” he said. “He is no more, vadanwa naMwari vakadavira (he has passed on). I'm not okay!”

After the death message, many sent their condolences. “MHSRIP this name is known all over Zimbabwe was the voice of the massage of God every Sunday during that time. His voice was suitable for delivering the word,” mourned Diva Dollar.

Some like Peter Mwanetsa recalled his memorable sermons. “... sorry wangu. Be strong. I still remember one sermon of his on Christmas eve, “... chakadya chakaoneka mutanda wakasiya mbare.”

Preaching under the revealing moniker, The Praying Mantis, Pastor Mabaudhi became a permanent voice of reason on national radio, before the advent of the younger generation of charismatic preachers.

The then pastor in the Dutch Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ), trained in theology, later qualifying in radio production.

Indeed, he was “A colossal in the gospel history,” according to Bornwell Madambi. He belongs to the class of the late Evangelist Chiweshe. One of his last recorded sermons in 2015 was in Kwekwe, during a Sunday Revival.
