Cape Town - It was about 7pm on Saturday when Gexe decided he was not prepared to wait for his money any longer.

But it was a decision that would cost him his life. While reclaiming his R200 ($15) loan, Gexe died a painful death.

When Gexe Tshisa (34), a mashonisa, walked into his customer’s house, the man refused to pay the money and assaulted him.

But he wasn’t just beaten. Gexe was assaulted with knobkerries and a golf club by the customer and two of his friends. Then he was dragged into the yard and his head was crushed with rocks.

It isn’t known if Gexe was already dead when he had petrol poured over him and was set alight, but he died a painful death.

Residents of Gugulethu Everest squatter camp in Springs saw Gexe’s body on fire and called the police. His body was taken to a government mortuary on Sunday.

Residents allegedly found Gexe’s attackers at their house. The attackers apparently confessed to having killed Gexe but managed to get away and are still on the run.

The angry residents then turned on the mother of one of the suspects, Silvia Ncai, accusing her of siding with her son. They were stopped by community leaders who said that Ncai had done nothing wrong.

Later, Ncai produced the bloody golf stick that was used to beat the victim.

“I took the golf stick from my son and kept it for safety. I did a good thing to keep the evidence. I will not shelter a bad son. Residents must see that I won’t cover for him,” said the mum at the scene.

A community leader, Nzuzo Samka said they are worried the stick might disappear and, with it, the crucial evidence.

“We want the people who did this to face the law. We can’t live with such people among us. They may kill our children in future,” he said.

Daily Sun accompanied the people to the Springs Police Station where the golf club was registered as evidence. A case of murder was opened with Springs police and cops are looking for three suspects. - Daily Sun
