Harare - After a heavy dosage of politically-incited violence, rampantly unleashed on political opponents, independent candidate and former Zanu-PF member, Themba Mliswa has wrestled the Norton seat from the ruling party in a recent by election.

While conceding defeat, ruling party Commissar, Savour Kasukuwere apprecited supporter on Twitter.

“Norton has eluded us, key lessons have been learnt. Kasukuwere said on Twitter. Thank you to our supporters for coming out and voting for our candidate.
Temba Mliswa has Won Norton By-Election

"The message from the electorate is there for us to digest and we will return, no doubt. Norton is home to great citizens and setbacks are normal.”

Final results were still being compiled by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) late Saturday but Mliswa was said to have polled about 7 000 votes with Zanu PF candidate Ronald Chindedza coming a close second with about 6 000 votes.

David Chingodzo of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) was said to have come a distant third. Campaigning was fronted by top officials with an orgy of violence engulfing the dormitory town.

“Violence, biased food distribution and the residential stands are part of the paraphernalia of electoral politics played by ruling parties during elections, especially in Zimbabwe.

“I presume the other parties would have done the same if they had access to State resources. It will be foolhardy not to expect this kind of conduct. It’s part of Zimbabwe’s electoral politics,” political observer, Eldered Masunungure said. - tinzwei.com/Online Sources
