Chiefs vs Baroka: ‘Doctor Khumalo Returns Home’

Johannesburg – Kaizer Chiefs great, Doctor Khumalo returns home where he is loved by many for his loyal service – but this time as an enemy – plotting the Glamour Boys downfall.

Now as a technical director for the Limpopo outfit, Chiefs will dig deep to unseat their opponents who have a seemingly good insight into their operations.

The Absa Premiership encounter at Moses Mabhida Stadium will bring a flood of memories for Khumalo, who played faithfully for Amakhosi, until his unceremonious departure, recently.

Chiefs’ prime striker Gustavo Paez, however, seems more concerned about the slow supply up-front than the return of Khumalo.

The Venezuelan striker reckons the lack of supply up-front accounts for their lack of goals, despite the abundance of talent at Amakhosi’s disposal.

But want he needs are more clean balls.

“It’s difficult with injuries to key players. We need Rama (Ramahlwe Mphahlele) and (Tsepo) Masilela for their experience in big games – if you look at the goal we conceded against Wits, for example,” said Paez.

“Last season we had the same situation as far as goals are concerned. If we want to win a trophy this season, we have to create more chances.”

Paez’s quality is undisputed, as already shown in his competitive spirit and determination to help the team return to glory days.

Steve Komphela, has acknowledged Paez’s laments about poor supply. “The ammunition is there to supply and score, if you look at the number of chances we create,” said Komphela.

“Even in the matches we’ve won there were more chances created. We just need to be consistent. The depth of quality Gustavo brings through goals – he feels ‘I can give more but the supply has to increase’.

“Yes, we haven’t been able to beat Baroka but there is always a first time. As it often happens, there are teams you say you never lose to, only to get beaten, and teams you beat for the first time.”

On Khumalo, he said: “Doctor is one of our own. His contribution has been immense here. Unfortunately he’s had to move on. His experience and presence will motivate the players.” - Online Sources
