Transfer Deals: Did Komphela Approve New Players?

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung says the club's three new signings were concluded in consultation with head coach Steve Komphela.

Chiefs recently completed the signing of Siphelele Ntshangase from Baroka on a two-and-a-half year deal, adding to the acquisitions of fellow midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela and striker Leonardo Castro from Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

Komphela's control over transfer dealings has been unclear over his two-and-a-half years at Naturena, but Motaung insists the former Maritzburg United boss was involved in recruiting the trio.

“We have been working tirelessly for the past few weeks to negotiate and finalise these new deals,” Motaung told the club's website.

“All the signings were done in consultation with coach Steve Komphela and his technical team. Our plan is to have a strong team that will compete fiercely in the second half of the season and beyond.”

He added: “We welcome the player [Ntshangase] to Naturena. We are positive that the three acquisitions we’ve made thus far will make our supporters happy.”

Ntshangase, who has been handed jersey number five, said it was his dream to join the Glamour Boys, as did Mahlasela.

“I am delighted to be here,” said Ntshangase. “It has always been my dream to don the gold and black jersey and I’m excited that the dream has come to fruition.”

The Glamour Boys loaned defender Lorenzo Gordinho to Celtic as part of the deal to bring in Mahlasela. - Kick-Off
