Stay on Line: George Lebese Warns Khune

Johannesburg – Former Chiefs player George Lebese has warned Amakhosi captain Itumeleng Khune to stay on his line and not leave his goalpost ahead of the hyped forthcoming soccer clash.

The words of caution were conveyed to the Bafana Bafana keeper as Amakhosi prepare to host The Brazilians in a top-of-the-table Absa Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium.

Saturdays's clash will be the 68th time since 1985, when the NSL was established, with the rivalry having continued to grow since then.

“I also got a message from George [Lebese], who said I must stay on my line and not leave my goalposts,” he joked.

Meanwhile, Khune has has bemoaned Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane’s wishes to have an open game when they meet on Saturday.
During Happier Times

“Everything has been going well, we’re preparing very well and we’re all excited, looking forward to Saturday,” said Khune to online magazine KickOff.

“As you know, Chiefs and Sundowns is another big fixture after the Soweto Derby. It’s a big match, players are excited and the fans are excited.

“We had to play three matches just after the Christmas break, but everyone was just focussing on the Sundowns game, saying we [Chiefs] must beat them [Sundowns].”

Mosimane's call for an open game has arose the ire of Khune.

“Yes, it’s our job, we have to deliver the results and we have to entertain our people, but I don’t agree with coach Pitso when he says … Yes, we all want to see goals, but that means we shouldn’t have goalkeepers on Saturday, because I wouldn’t want to concede three goals.

“We want to keep a clean sheet, and I’m glad the strikers have found their scoring boots – we’ve been scoring goals lately, which is something that we had been struggling with," Khune responded.
