Johannesburg - Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Robson Muchichwa says he will forever cherish the memory of winning the 1994 Coca-Cola Cup with QwaQwa Stars.

That Stars side was coached by Peter Nyama and it had players such as Serame Letsoaka, David Vilakazi, Elvis Manana and John Tlali as they beat Hellenic 3-2 after extra-time in the final.

The left winger then left the club in 1995 to join Chiefs where he spent four years before moving on to Dynamos in 1999. He returned to Naturena in 2000 for just a season.

The 42-year-old Muchichwa now lives in Durban and is coaching amateur side One Nation in the SAB League. And like many ex-footballers, he has a dream of coaching in the Premier Soccer League or the National First Division in future.

“I have so many memories as a footballer, but the biggest is when I was at QwaQwa Stars. It was in 1994 and it was my first year in South Africa when we won the Coca-Cola Cup,” Muchichwa tells KickOff.com.

“That was the moment for me. On that day I did wonders and it was the first time the team won the cup. I feel I contributed. Mashamplani says he especially enjoyed playing against Mamelodi Sundowns, notably helping Chiefs win the Rothmans Cup in 1997 and 1998 at the expense of the Brazilians.

“I used to perform well against Sundowns and I used to score goals as well. I don’t know what used to happen to me when I’m playing against them but accidentally I used to make the most of it against Sundowns.”

Muchichwa adds that representing Chiefs was his biggest achievement in a career with no regrets.

“I managed to play for a club like Kaizer Chiefs and that for me is a big achievement. I was also being called up to play for the national team in Zimbabwe, so I don’t regret anything. I feel I used the chances that were presented to me quite well,” he said. - KickOff
