Harare - Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned his predecessor Robert Mugabe to desist from his rumoured intentions to prop a new splinter opposition party, that will directly derail Zanu PF's 2018 agenda to win the forthcoming 2018 elections.

The ousted Mugabe is rumoured to be the kingpin behind the National Patriotic Front (NPF) - a move  that has irked Mnangagwa and his government.

Retired army general Ambrose Mutinhiri is being dangled as the leader of the party, after a clandestine meeting at Mugabe's Blue Roof residence in Harare, recently.

“The former President, paita nyaya! Currently, we see in the media various speculations about his activities. I have no doubt that in no time the facts and reality will be made known and we will only take a position when reality and the issues are known and if it is factual.

“But currently we are not happy with what the media is saying. We don’t know whether it’s correct or not, but it is an issue we are examining.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God. So if the voice of the people says this is wrong, then we also say it is wrong. If an individual or group of individuals goes against the current of the voice of the people, then we say you are lost. My message is that we must be peaceful, united and loving,” Mnangagwa told a youth gathering recently.

Youth League national chairman Cde Pupurai Togarepi took a dig at the former premier.

“Mukuru ngaazive kuti anonyarwa. We know a lot he has done. His problem with us did not come out of the blues. He was aware of what was happening mumba mavo neshamwari dzavo dzaivafurira. We are glad you said let bygones be bygones, but if he is not responsible we are going to look at him as a new enemy and we will go for him.”

The conference was dominated by anti-Mugabe slogans.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF has announced that members expelled from the party can only be readmitted after five years.

“Members expelled and confirmed by the Extraordinary Congress of 2017 remain, of course, expelled and can only reapply if they wish after five years,” Zanu PF chairperson said.

Prominent members dismmisedd include: Grace Mugabe, Ignatius Chombo, Saviour Kasukuwere, Jonathan Moyo, Kudzanai Chipanga and Mandiitawepi Chimene.
