One crucial aspect that many people fail to understand in life is what must be done first.

In your diary, do you know what must come first and which one must come last when you are putting down your to-do list?

What is the first thing that you dedicate your time to and how much you allocate for that task? Perhaps you are one of those people who chooses to relegate important things by choosing to focus on minor tasks.

When you have a list of things to do, you know the amount of time and resources to commit to a particular task. “Put first things first,” encouraged the CB Nation, a community of blogs for entrepreneurs and business owners.

“This is not my idea. The most influential business book I have ever read is not specifically a business book but applies to life in general including business.”

“That book is the ultra-successful The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by the sadly missed Stephen Covey,” adds the CB Nation article.

Don’t be tempted to shift the priority of the tasks at hand. Stay on track, just stick to what you are supposed to do.

The CB Nation continued: “The habit that has stuck with me is his Habit Number 3, Put First Things First. I have used this to identify the critical actions that I and my team need to do to push the business forward. We diarise these in advance and nothing moves them!”

Disturbances are everywhere, but if you remain focused, you will overcome them. Ignore those distractions and aim for what needs to be done at the right time.

“This one is so hard because Twitter and Facebook and email just don’t want you to do this. Successful business owners ignore distractions and focus on the highest payoff work first.”

“This may include doing the grunt work they don’t really want to do, but, say, the IRS has deemed important for some silly reason,” urged the Duct Tape Marketing article authored by John Jantsch. Being able to complete one of your most difficult tasks requires a stable and strong mental stamina.

“This a mental win as much as a physical to-do list win. There’s something really freeing about realizing you’ve conquered the toughest thing you have to do that day by 9am! On the days I actually do this I get so much more done in total because I don’t fuss around trying to figure out how to put off what I know I should do,” Jantsch writes.

Interestingly, Jeff Bullas decides to introduce the issue of health as one of the most important habits that you must practice for you to succeed in your business. So those celebrities who run before they go to work are on the right track.

Before they get to the office, they are already in the right state of mind to conquer whatever comes to their ways because they have developed a positive attitude on the track.

“Keep fit. A healthy body goes a long way to helping you feel positive. Maintain a regular exercise regime to keep you in top shape, and feel better,” encourages Bullas.

Failure to plan is planning to fail. Your disorder will manifest in the way you do your business. “Success in business requires true effort and grit, along with steadfast concentration,” according to the Entrepreneur magazine.

“Considering that most of us are usually so caught up and chaotic during the day, we need those early morning hours to really focus our minds on the day ahead. There’s no better habit for achieving your goals, whether personal or professional, than waking up early.”

In the business world, there are no excuses such as I am not a morning person, you just have to adjust and make it work. Certain habits may take time to follow, but when you adopt them, they will be a part of you.

The Entrepreneur continued: “How much earlier you ask? At least two hours earlier than you are right now. Some of the world's most successful entrepreneurs wake up between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. every single day without fail. But if you're not a morning person, you might find some difficulty with instilling this habit.”

Again, Darrell Zahorsky agitates for what he terms customer-centric, whereby you deeply learn your customer habits and know what they are thinking.

He says: “Business success requires an unwavering commitment to the customer. This commitment encompasses a mindset of understanding the customers’ world.” A business exists to make profits, however, if you ignore your customers, you have completely lost the plot.

“Understanding the customers’ wants and needs provides the business with a greater opportunity to earn a loyal customer base. Focus away from business and profits, and toward what you can do to improve the lives of your customers,” added Zahorsky.
