Crafting a good sales pitch is not a reflex action.

Those days when salespersons heaped statistics, company achievements, and how they are better than their competitors are long gone.

An effective pitch that will bring the desired results needs people who listen. You need to create a channel to exchange ideas and ask relevant questions.

By @Comic24Derick

You must respond to uncomfortable questions about your company, and offer practical strategies to solve problems.

In other words, you become like a python that takes time to reveal its intentions, by making the victim comfortable, and later on, it strikes.

Become a storyteller

A sales pitch is your chance to become a storyteller, make customers know more about your company. If you are a salesperson with ready-made or copy and paste answers for all your prospects, then you are in the wrong profession.

While there is nothing like a perfect pitch, the first impression is however, a must, so make it memorable. If you get your audience’s attention for longer, you have a high chance of closing a sale. But remember to present a killer first line.

Sales professionals around the globe deal with rejection daily, despite that, it has become their second nature. The mark of a great salesperson is the ability to pitch to the next customer after a series of rejections.

Keep on trying

If you ask the greatest salesperson you look up to, you will learn that they have more rejections than success in their career. So if great professionals are denied, what makes them stay on the job, and wake up the next morning to pitch again.

Probably they are motivated by the late inventor, Thomas Edison, who after trying and failing a thousand times to invent the light bulb, he remained stubborn to reach his mission.

Edison said then: “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to success is to try just one more time.”

The proven way to make more sales is achieved by doing more than what is expected, or what you are paid for. The more you do, the more your chances increase.

A business without customers is like a morgue

“Your customers are the lifeblood of your business,” John Rampton declared. “Their needs and wants impact every aspect of your business, from product development to content marketing to sales to customer service.”

This daring statement accredited to Rampton, best referred to as an entrepreneur and connector, shows that sales will regulate if your business will survive or fail. Yes, a morgue is a business that serves the dead.

And if you don’t invest time in convincing customers, you will become history. Your customers’ needs have to be satisfied; only then can you retain their loyalty and remain viable.

The recipe of wealth creation

Subway franchise co-founder offered a simple method to stay afloat in business. “Profit or perish… There are only two ways to make money: increase sales and decrease costs,” mentioned Fred Deluca.

A business that exercises this proven formula may fail in other sections, but they are guaranteed of making profits. Sales will fund your operations; however, you have to manage your overheads to realize a profit margin. The two depend on each other, but sales must be higher and not the opposite.

Sales is not a title

“I have always said that everyone is in sales,” Zig Ziglar stated. “Maybe you don’t hold the title of salesperson, but if the business you are in requires you to deal with people, you, my friend, are in sales.”

Maybe you hate speaking to people. Probably you don’t know how to make a cold call sales pitch. Or you don’t want to learn how to make a successful sales pitch.

If so, you can say goodbye to your business. Sales involve interacting with people from all backgrounds, with different needs. Your success depends on how you convince them to buy from you and not the next company.

How to swim your way to success

The author of Swim With The Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive, Harvey Mackay is in sync with Ziglar. “To me, job titles don’t matter,” the seven-time New York Times best-selling author said. “Everyone is in sales. It’s the only way we stay in business.”

And after these two great minds have spoken, you can only ignore their wisdom at your company’s expense. Keep selling and you will go far, perhaps more than a decade, the same way Coca-Cola has existed for over a century.

Respect everyone you meet

Be careful that the person you ignore today, might become your prospect tomorrow. When you are in business, show respect to everyone. Tell them they are important.

Make them feel special for the benefit of your company. This approach elevated Mary Kay Ash, who upon her death in 2001, her company, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc had more than $1.2 billion in sales.

With such a rich legacy, Ash was convinced to caution that: “Pretend that every single person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says, ‘Make me feel important.’ Not only will you succeed in sales, you will succeed in life.”

The customer is always the king

“Really good customer service will deliver sales. You’re training salesmen to give the best possible advice and then to achieve the sale,” said John Caudwell. “People actually like you to ask for a sale because it shows you value their business.”

In your business take time to consider people’s lives. Don’t concentrate on raking profits, because without them, you will fail. When you address customer needs, they will know you value them.

Selling is a process

On prospects, John Rampton implied: “Each piece of content you create should lead your readers further down the path to purchase,” the serial entrepreneur states.

“Typically, sales and leads won’t happen until a prospect has had multiple points of contact with you, so don’t expect sales after a single blog post,” added Rampton.

Instant results in sales are a coincidence. The process takes longer and demands more effort. When you create consistent posts, you have a chance to attract more prospects. The trick is doing more, only then can you earn trust.

Sell like your life depends on it

The best example of how to create a good sales pitch was presented by Rose George. “I find Maersk fascinating. It is the Coca-Cola of freight with none of the fame,” said the British journalist and author.

He added: “It’s parent company, A. P. Moller-Maersk, is Denmark's largest company, its sales equal to 20 percent of Denmark's GDP; its ships use more oil than the entire nation.”
