Wydad Casablanca: “We Must Match their Attitude,” Mosimane.

There is little time to relax for mentor Pitso Mosimane and his expensively assembled Masandawana side, as another tricky trip to North Africa is imminent.

A mouthwatering encounter with Moroccan Wydad Casablanca is in the offing in September – and North African teams are known to use every trick outside the book to get a favourable result.

But thanks to the Mosimans’s experience, the mentor knows what to anticipate in the CAF Champions League

Wydad topped their Group D round – and have the advantage of playing the second-leg match in Morocco, where they will most certainly be expected to make life difficult for Mosimane’s men.

Another trip comes after a similar one to play Zamalek, Esperance and ES Setif in the last 12 months. Their opponents scored seven goals and conceding just three times. None of those goals were conceded at home.

“We are playing at home first, so they [Wydad] have an advantage. The North African teams play almost the same, the mentality is the same, the aggression is the same. They are very dangerous on set pieces and they are organised. There’s a lot of combination play,” says Mosimane.

He added: “You need to match them with the attitude. With Vita, you did not see anybody falling for penalties or trying to annoy you and make you get booked. I’ve packaged almost everything for my boys, to understand the culture of North African teams and how they think.”

Meanwhile, SuperSport United also found out their opponents for the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, with Matsatsantsa going up against last year’s CCL semi-finalists, ZESCO United, of Zambia.

Like their neighbours, SuperSport will also play at home in the first leg before travelling to Ndola for the second leg as they look to try and book a spot in the last four.

Mosimane and new SuperSport coach, Eric Tinkler, are no strangers to their respective competitions, with the former having won the CCL last year and the latter finishing as runner-up in 2015 with Orlando Pirates.
