Johannesburg - It seems a lengthy injury list is proving a blessing in disguise for Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela as continuity in selection is yielding results of late.
Komphela used the same squad for the third game in a row in the 3-0 victory over AmaZulu in the last-16 of the Telkom Knockout at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.George Maluleka, Pule Ekstein and Siphiwe Tshabalala got the goals for Amakhosi, who beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 and drew 0-0 with Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium in their previous two league games.
Komphela is still deprived of the services of Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Tsepo Masilela, Kgotso Moleko, Teenage Hadebe and Emmanuel Letlotlo through injury.
“You guys are better equipped with stats and all that,” an amused looking Komphela said at the post-match press conference. If you go back at teams that have been relegated before, the number of players have been used is far too big.

“With the same kind of thinking you are saying, ‘Any team that has won a championship is a team that can have the same starting eleven just like that’.
“There was an analysis done recently about Liverpool; the number of players they used in previous seasons and this season and all of that. That sends a message with regards to what does consistency in selection do and inconsistency do?
“I’m trying to respond to the question with the utmost respect and not protecting myself, that it is okay to have consistent selection. Maybe again refer back to the challenges we are going through, we don’t have the biggest squad.
“We sitting on 20-21 [players currently] and we have to box clever. Again if it isn't broken why fix it? Without being too predictable, you can never have answers in football.
“If you say ‘No, no, I’m not going to change my team’ and somebody will say ‘We know anyway’ and you become predictable. If you are not predictable you play 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 3-6-1, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 or whatever... you say ‘This guy is not settled, he’s not consistent’. So whichever way it is, there’s a question.
“Maybe we should say we’re happy results are forthcoming and we wish these kids the best that they stay injury free and we keep producing results for our supporters.”
The Glamour Boys will meet Chippa United in the next round of the competition. - Kick Off
